The next version will not be based on the existing code, but will be a redesigned version. Because the code has been totally re-written it is taking a long time to develop and will not be ready for release for a long time.
1. two columns-layout
I have a double table which should be filled like this
Header Header a b c d
it works fine for the first page, but if the following page isn't filled completely contents isn't printed.
I dont think the column balancing algorithm changed for 0.20.5. So the problem probably still exists.
2. footnote problem
If a footnote doesn't fit under the contents it disappears instead of being printed on a next page. Is the footnote problem solved in 0.20.5 or alternatively is page-position=last supported to define another layout for the last page.
I'm not sure if the footnote issue has been fixed. page-position="last" has definitely not been implemented in 0.20.5.
It is quite easy just to try 0.20.5 and see if the output improves for the scenarios you mention. I'll be interested to know, so if you do try it please post your findings back to the list
