Yamaha V-ixion terpilih mengalahkan 6 finalis lainnya yakni Kawasaki Ninja 250 R, Bajaj Pulsar 200 DTS-i, Honda Beat, Honda Supra X125 PGM-FI, Honda Vario, dan Suzuki Satria F150. Pengumuman motor tahun ini atau Indonesia Motorcycle of The Year 2008 (IMOTY) disampaikan oleh Ketua Juri Adi Nugroho di sela-sela Jakarta Motorcycle Show 2008, di Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC), Senayan, Jakarta, Jumat (12/12/2008). Dari 7 finalis juri memilih 3 finalis besar yakni Honda Supra X 125 PGM F1, Kawasaki Ninja 250 R, dan Yamaha V-ixion. Juri memilih Honda Supra X 125 PGM F1 sebanyak 74 poin, Kawasaki Ninja 250 R sebanyak 75 poin dan Yamaha V-ixion sebanyak 114 poin. "7 Juri memberikan nilai mutlak kepada Yamah V-ixion," ujarnya. Juri memilih V-ixion dengan alasan harga jual V-ixion yang sesuai dengan teknologi. "Itu keputusan aklamasi dari voter 17 dewan juri," ujarnya. Hadir dalam pengumuman motor terbaik tahun ini antara lain oleh Ketua Umum Asosiasi Sepeda Motor Indonesia (AISI) Gunadi Sindhuwinata. Pemilihan dilakukan lewat jalur poling dari seluruh model dan merek kendaraan roda dua yang sedang dijual di Indonesia oleh sekitar 40 orang wartawan yang bergelut di dunia otomotif tanah air. Juri akhirnya mendapatkan 7 finalis. 7 Finalis itu disaring kembali oleh 17 juri inti yang juga terdiri dari wartawan-wartawan otomotif Indonesia. Hingga terpilihlah motor Yamaha V-ixion yang menyandang gelar bergengsi sebagai IMOTY 2008.
