As part of an investigation I am trying to extract data from a PC running IBM POS 4690 Operating System with Supermarket Applications. The PC appears to be standard commodity PC hardware, but the Operating System is IBM's proprietary 4690 OS, which is not related to Windows, Linux, or Mac OS/X in any way.
I have an image of the 3GB hard drive. My tool, FTK, cannot read anything from the OS 4690 filesystem on the drive image. It appears as one 3GB blob of data. I tried booting the image in VMWARE (Using LiveView to build a VM image from the drive image). It just brings up a blank screen with an underline cursor in the upper left corner, which is the same thing the actual computer did when booting. However it stop there and doesn't boot into Supermarket Application. Does anyone have any experience with 4690? If anyone knows details about the filesystem I can write something to extract the data. If anyone knows how to boot it up in VMWARE I can run reports from within the system... Thanks, Peter Theobald
