Hi,
I have made a package for the systemd project. Here is a simple status
report while we are still waiting for the wiki to be up.
-----------------------
With systemd installed, my KVM testing machine can be booted (from the
extlinux screen to gdm screen) in ~25s.
And it uses considerably less processes during the boot process, e.g.:
# ps aux | grep Xorg
root 514 0.5 3.1 86312 15912 tty2 Ss+ 19:04 0:02 /usr/bin/Xorg
:0 -br -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-V6Fshb/database -nolisten tcp
On my desktop with current fl:2-devel:
$ ps aux | grep Xorg
root 1553 0.5 1.5 161432 61404 tty7 Ss+ Nov19 225:09 /usr/bin/Xorg
:0 -br -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-WjsnIZ/database -nolisten tcp
-----------------------
I have tested the packages on KVM and on my laptop, and there are no big
problems.
So if you want to try it out (warning! your system may fail to boot!):
Step 1: Install the package and update necessary dependencies.
I tested on the fl:2-devel branch but it should work on fl:2-qa too.
For 32bit system:
conary update {dbus,dbus-x11,udev,kbd,systemd}=jesse.rpath....@fl:2-devel
For 64bit system:
conary update {dbus,dbus-x11,udev,kbd,systemd}=jesse.rpath....@fl:2-devel
{udev,dbus}=jesse.rpath....@fl:2-devel[is:x86]
Step 2:
Reboot
Step 3:
When you are at the extlinux screen, type the tab key and append to the
end of the line:
init=/bin/systemd
Then type enter. That's it.
------------------------
Known problems:
1. plymouth doesn't work. I haven't looked into it. Maybe we need a
newer version.
2. system time is wrong. It seems to be set to UTC for me.
