During a meeting with Cardinals, Bishops and leaders of the Catholic Church held in the East Room of the White House, Bush stressed that the Pope was "truly one of the great men". The meeting took place at the eve of today's dedication of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington. During his brief address, the President also expressed his recognition for the Catholic Church's "universal care for the weak and the suffering" and her "strong focus on making sure every child is educated." "The best way to honor Pope John Paul II, truly one of the great men, is to take his teaching seriously; is to listen to his words and put his words and teachings into action here in America," further said President Bush.
