Mikulski answers. Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2001 00:10:31 -0400 Importance: Normal FYI: I've received an official letter from the Office of Senator Barbara A. Mikulski, as the response for my letter calling for an action against the play "Polish Joke". This play, presented on the stages of the Seattle's ACT Theatre, was advertised using an extremely offensive anti-Polish words. "United States Senate Washington, DC 20510 August 16, 2001 Dear Mr. Maziakowski: Thank you very much for getting in touch with me regarding the ACT Contemporary Theatre in Seattle's play, "Polish Joke". It's good to hear from you. I understand your concern that the play might be offensive to people of Polish descent. I agree that ethnic jokes can be derogatory. However, I support the First Amendment to our Constitution, which guarantees the right of free speech, a free press, and freedom and religion. I firmly believe that all forms of discrimination should be prohibited. People should be judged solely by their individual skills, competence, and unique talents, and nothing else. From the day I first entered Congress I have worked very hard to guarantee equality to everyone under the law. As Congress continues to address these issues, let me assure you I will continue to fight for equality for all Americans. Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. If there is anything I can do for you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me again. Sincerely, Barbara A. Mikulski Unites States Senator" ---------------------- End forwarded message --------------------- =============================================================== Lista 'Forum Zagraniczne' Administrator: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archiwum: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
