Three months into the new year have shown an increased interested in XML based Java GUI generation. No matter if you are an Thinlet, SwiXml, Luxor, etc. user, this is good news, confirming that we are in fact on the right track.

Swixml for instance has been downloaded almost 700 times already and we can expect to see some real world applications using it, to be released soon. Interestingly enough, about 20% of the sixml.org visits originate in Europe. (Germany, Italy and Finland are responsible for half of that)

Theodore, the Thinlet Editor stronger than ever.
"Theo" was launched (Web-started) 7,377 times during Q1. 2003

What's ahead?
With more developers joining Robert in his efforts to push Thinlet forward, we can expect Thinlets to gain even more momentum. While we here at Carlsbad Cubes carefully watch Thinlets being high jacked, we started looking very seriously into supporting the upcoming Thinlet 1.0 release and started coding on the next Theodore version supporting it. However, like mentioned here before, we do not feel comfortable supporting any not-labeled Thinlet CVS version available on SourceForge.

What else ...
Theodore's Freeware and AP Editions will go separate ways. So far there were hardly any difference noticeable between the two close browsers, this is going to change however.
To be honest the sale of Theodore-AP did not go as well as anticipated and while this project was never designed to make us money - it is budgeted to cover the cost for web hosting and related expenses. Today, Theodore is not only used by hobbyists and open-source programmers - the heaviest user for instance is a France government site, which starts Theodore more than 500 times every month.
To encourage those professional users to purchase the AP-Edition but also keep it free for the open-source and semi-professional community, we will limit the number of nodes in an XML document supported by the Freeware Edition.
Beginning of April, the Web-startable Freeware edition will only be able to open, manage and save XML documents that have less than a yet to determine number of nodes (tags). Please plan accordingly, it may take up to 48 hours to completely process an order.

Please do not misinterpret this message as anything more than being clear and upfront. Theodore will remain a freeware service product and most of you will probably not ever hit the limit. Still, we are not completely free from economical concerns and ask for your understanding and continued support!
