We have done that in a 3 year project, called sicas, the client is a 
ligthweigth XUL package running as a signed applet on a web
page , the server side is a cluster of BEA WebLogic servers, the experience 
from our own customers is that the application is years
beyond actual web technologies, we are now discarding anything jsp / struts / 
tags based in our new designs, it's nonsense having
the know-how on this technologies, so, go for it and invest on the effort, it 
finally pays and shines.

Swixml allows you to write a Swing GUI through XML. Whether you generate the
XML through a server, use files or anything else is up to you. To
communicate to a server, you must use other means of communication...
