Dear colleagues, This is to announce the "Introductory/instructional workshop", January 6 - January 10 2020, as part of the programme "Groups, representations and applications: new perspectives" of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, January - July 2020.
The workshop will provide participants with an overview of the programme topics and how they fit together. This will be achieved by providing an account of the state of the art of each of the programme themes, as well as an introduction to the major open problems in each area. We anticipate that this will be especially beneficial to Early Career Researchers and those wishing to work at the interface between group- and representation theory and other areas. There will be in particular lectures on finite reductive groups, their subgroups and their representations, on local global conjectures in group representation theory, and on fusion systems. There will also be lectures on modern algorithmic methods for finitely presented groups and matrix groups. Connections with other areas of mathematics will also be presented. For more information, and to apply to participate, please see https://www.newton.ac.uk/event/graw01 There is limited financial support available to cover registration fees, please apply on the website above. The deadline for applications is 13th October 2019. Best wishes, The organisers: Marc Cabanes, David Craven, Gerhard Hiss and Gunter Malle -- Gerhard Hiss, Lehrstuhl D fuer Mathematik, RWTH Aachen, 52056 Aachen Tel.: (+49) (0) 241 / 80-94543 _______________________________________________ Forum mailing list Forum@gap-system.org https://mail.gap-system.org/mailman/listinfo/forum
