Dear Forum, This ring, Ring(Sqrt(2)), does not have a unity: this explains why One(Ring(Sqrt(2))) does not terminate. (it does not know how to "prove" that there is no unity, so it continues to generate new and new elements in hope to find one...)
Then, it appears that polynomial rings in GAP are only implemented for rings with unity, and this explains why Indeterminate(Ring(Sqrt(2))), as it tries to find the unity first.
