RE: Virus with the attachment "LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS"
What You Need To Do:
1. Do NOT Open any emails from unknown sources with ".TXT" attachments:
Delete any UNKNOWN messages you receive with a ".TXT" attachment.
Highlight the message in your inbox, then press SHIFT and DELETE at the
same time to permanently remove the message from your mail system.
2. Do NOT run any attachments named:
"LIFE_STAGES.TXT" or
"LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS" or
"LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS.ZIP"
NOTE: You may or may not see the ".SHS" file extension.
Related Service Problems:
Due to the servers being scanned for the virus, you may experience the
following problems.
* Delays in email delivery
* Intermittent email service availability and slow access to mail
boxes
Background Information The Intel Virus Response Team (IVRT) reports that a
self-propagating virus with the attachment of "LIFE_STAGES.TXT" or
"LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS" is infecting desktops, laptops, and network shares
that run Microsoft Windows*. The virus does NOT have a standard subject
line. Therefore, you may see the email virus arrive with different subject
line names. However, the attachment is always the same with
"LIFE_STAGES.TXT" or "LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS" or "LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS.ZIP".
IT is working the issue and is currently filtering all messages with
".SHS" attachments in the Exchange* servers. Solutions are being worked on
to remove and clean up this virus. Updates As the situation evolves, we
will post all updates on Circuit; please check this page frequently during
