Dear AVP Customers, Thank you for your interest in Kaspersky Lab products and its latest events. The AVP/AVX confusion is explained at http://www.avp.ch/E/avpqa.htm. The information provided below only applies to you if you have purchased AVP from Central Command in the U.S.. If you have purchased AVP here at avp.ch or from another local distributor, you should not be affected by the below explained changes. We realize by many questions we are getting lately that there is some widespread confusion regarding avp.com, the product called AVX and AVP. We try to answer some of these questions here. Is "avp.com" the AVP developers homepage? No, it is not and never has been. The domain avp.com is registered by Central Command in the U.S. and has been used by Central Command the past years to sell and support AVP in the U.S.. AVP, AntiViral Toolkit Pro is developed and continues to be developed by KasperskyLab, an international security-software developer with headquarters in Moscow, Russia. KasperskyLab also has offices in Cambridge, UK and is represented in many countries through local distributors. Central Command has stopped selling and supporting AVP, but is appearently holding onto the domain avp.com (seemingly taking advantage of the worldwide AVP name-recognition helping them to promote the antivirus product they are now distributing) Is "AVX" an "upgrade" of AVP ? No, it is not. AVX is a completely different anti-virus product and is in no way affiliated or co-developed with KasperskyLab. As such, it is no newer version of AVP. Does "AVX" replace or supersede AVP ? No, it does not. AVP is in no way affiliated with AVX. AVP continues to be updated, upgraded and enhanced by its developer, KasperskyLab. Why is avp.com leading to pages promoting the product "AVX" ? As Central Command has registered the domain avp.com, they can point it to anywhere they desire. We cannot go further into this issue, as we are not informed on the details between KasperskyLab and Central Command's agreements on this issue. It seems that Central Command is currently taking advantage of AVP's name recognition to promote the product they now represent. We leave it up to you to form your own opinion on this issue... Do I have to "upgrade" to "AVX" ? As outlined above, AVX does not replace or supersede AVP. AVP continues to be updated, upgraded and enhanced. "AVX" is a different product, developed by a Romanian software development company. If you obtained your AVP from Central Command in the U.S., visit KasperskyLab's homepage at www.kaspersky.com to get your updates and product upgrades in the future. Your current license continues to be valid. Why do you rename "AVP" into "Kaspersky Anti-Virus" ? The reasons have been published in KasperskyLab's press release. For you as a registered user, this name-change has no consequences in terms of license validity and obtaining updates. Your existing AVP can be updated and upgraded as always during the license term. Is "AVX" better than "AVP" ? Of course we cannot answer this question with yes or no - as AVP distributors we are biased on this issue. Wait for independent test-results to form your own opinion. We believe... you won't be disappointed with AVP (Kaspersky Anti-Virus) when it comes to high detection rates and fast updates, now and in the future. Where do you get support and updates ? If you purchased your AVP through Central Command in the U.S. you will get support and updates directly from KasperskyLab at www.kaspersky.com. If you purchased AVP on this Swiss site or over another official distributor, nothing changes for you - you can get your updates and support as usual.
