I also think that unnumbered bookmarks numbers are better. I have been using several C language developpement editors now and have seen that it is a very common practice to set/unset a bookmark with the shift+F2 keys. There is no number and you can set as many as you want. The number also disturbs us to my opinion.
Numbering them can still be good, so I suggest having two kind of bookmarks: the numbered ones and the unnumbered ones. Numbered ones would be in red, with the number like it is now, set/unset with alt+right. Unnumbered would be yellow or green tags, set/unset with shift+F2. That would make everyone happy having all features of all editors in the great pspad, letting the user choose his bookmark working style. What about that proposal ?
