I found a tip on this forum that worked for my problem: Replacing backwards

This hardens my assumption that PSPad gets out of sync with the text, as the
text ahead (=still to process) is changing (apostroph = 1 byte, new line = 2
bytes, therefore shifting 1 byte) and PSPad tries to replace at the old
locations, but these don't fit anymore and nothing happens.

When replacing backwards the text "ahead" (=still to process) doesn't change and
all found locations don't shift, hence PSPad can replace them.
