Mr Spock thank you for your reply. Doing editing first in a local test environment is certainly common and maybe advisable in many instances. I used to do it this way, and they reversed the process when I moved from a editor with FTP to FTP with integrated editor.
PS Pad has a great set of editing capabilities which I would love to use. However, the FTP portion seems to be going out of its way to make life difficult. As you indicated the save as (local) for remote files always starts in the temportary directory rather than the local directory defined for the project. Whether we edit first locally and then upload or edit remotely and download, it seems like there would always be a need to move a batch of files.
