(sorry this turned out to be so lengthy!) Hi there! I have been using software of the IDE category for nearly 10 years, and I am quite impressed with PSPad! I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover your grande achievement-- and by a one-in-a-million chance that I happened to be looking deep into the Documentation of an FTP client, "*SmartFTP*", where I noticed PSPad among their suggested Editors for integrating into that FTP Client. This striking me as *unusual*, I decided to give it a go.
My chance discovery happened just as I coincidentally was "going through a phase" of trying all of the "FREE" editors i could get my hands on from the so-called *trusted locations*, such as Download.com (having not investigated the market in a few years, and enjoying the trials and comparisons, I was delighting in all of the various different IDE's which seem to have sprung up lately). Oddly, PSPad was NOT among any of those which I located through my proactive search. If PSPad is not the best i have reviewed lately, then it is most certainly deserves TOP billing. I want to say it's the best, but I'm an honest man, and i've tried so many, to be true, there were at least one or two others i've used repeatedly-- however, I believe those are all expensive Payware. ;-) So, I shout a hearty *Congratulations* to the PSPad Developer(s) on your triumphant achievement in this nearly perfect IDE. It really is quite good. ------------------------ _My Inquiry:_ The built-in FTP Client is great! what more could a developer need. However, there seems to be missing some basic, key features which would exponentially improve the efficiency of FTP Project Management. It is possible that what I perceive as a "missing feature" is merely my oversight, and misunderstanding of how to "get to it". I hope that there is an answer, and you might help me to learn to perform the following "wishlist" action. I have succeeded in configuring everything about a Project in PSPad such that I am able to manage the local directory structure, and preview the PHP files, linking to the PHP.exe parser and all of the detailed configuration, troubling at first, but prevailing in the end as a very friendly Workspace environment. However, though I am able to "Save to FTP" the current file, I must also have preconfigured the proper FTP connection, and additionally-- have that FTP connection pointing to the specific folder where my current file should be uploaded. Though I'm quite capable of manually maintaining a synchronous transfers, one can't argue that there is some manual work involved where other IDE's offer, in the Project configuration process, an opportunity for the User the designate the FTP server for each Project, thereby ensuring that when a file is saved to FTP, it is indeed going to be saved on the appropriate, corresponding remote location. Moreover, it seems it would be much more intuitive to allow the user to select a folder of the Active Project and simply choose to "upload folder to FTP", but this option doesn't seem to exist. I've tried dragging and dropping. I've tried various approaches to engage some sort of synchronous behaviour between the PSPad Project Configuration, and the built-in FTP client, but there seems to be none other than to upload the active file, expecting that the FTP Client was left with the corresponding Folder open, ready to receive that file in the proper location. The "problem" by default would extend to uploading images as well, since images can't be an "active file", they seem to be unable to be saved to FTP at all. I propose that the Project Folders be given the function of "Save to FTP" so the Client need not be selective of their contents, but merely upload the entire folder, images, css, php, html, etc-- all in a synchronous manner which would be designated in the Project configuration. ---- I ask: does it exist in the PSPad , and i've merely overlooked this feature? If so, what am I doing wrong? --- I see that there are many "Extensions" or "Plugins" available for PSPad. Perhaps my desired FTP Sych function is afforded by one of the available extensions? Thank you very much for your help in this matter, and thank you, the Developers, for your continued work with PSPad. It certainly deserves much more attention than it's getting. I've been using it a lot, and I've got some of the most acclaimed IDE's available to me right now-- but something about PSPad keeps me coming back. It's very well done. Please keep up your work on the project. I'd love to help spread the word too. Where are the logos, etc. for web site owners? ;-) Thanks!!! -- <http://forum.pspad.com/read.php?2,41133,41133> PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
