Yes, I have the same concern. I have a UTF-16 text file of 1.2MB, about 4000 lines, so averagely each line consists of 150 Unicode characters (not very long).
It takes PSPad 19 seconds to open that file (with line wrap turned off), showing a blank screen during that time, and occupying 98% CPU resources. For comparison, Notepad took 2 seconds to open without line wrap, and 4 seconds with line wrap turned on. And, Notepad2 took less than 1 second to open it, even with line wrap on.
