I posted this originally because I found it very irritating that something as
obscure as _ZuluPad_ :-| fills the slot left by Notepad2, Notepad++, and
Programmer's Notepad in that contest. PSPad would fit in nicely with the bunch:
4 great programs, each with its own merits and minor weaknesses.
But the contest is about the best *notepad replacement*, not the best text
editor (I have to correct my earlier post).
Possibly PSPad is just a little too feature-packed ("too good") to qualify as a
replacement for an extremely simple program like notepad.
For example, a built-in hex editor is great, but for some of my non-techy
friends, it is just a possible source of confusion: "Suddenly all my text shows
as 3C3F 786D! What's wrong?" :-O
So perhaps lifehacker isn't as unfair as I thought. For the typical
non-technical user, I think Notepad2 is a very good choice. But for those who
want A LOT more than notepad, PSPad rocks.
