UNIX Shell script is internal highlighter. There is no way how to modify it from outside.
If you want to open .conf files with Unix Shell script highlighter, add *.conf
into highlighter extensions.
I thing UnixShellScript highlighter know what you need - it highlights ${...} as
variable. You need only modify color for variable in Highlighter settings / Unix
