I think so. I can type in Japanese (just have to switch to the different input
method), and it works well in applications such as OpenOffice, Word, Outlook,
Firefox etc. In PsPad, it also looks right while typing (i.e. I see the Japanese
characters while the kotoeri input method is active), but as soon as I hit
return (to confirm the word), the word just entered is replaced by a rectangle.

I guess this is because PsPad uses a font such as for example Courier, and such
a font does not contain Japanese characters. 

I wonder how PsPad decides what font to use for displaying text in an UTF-8
encoded file...
