In Word and WordPerfect it is possible to select text with just the use of the arrow keys (ie without needing to use the mouse or holding down the shift key and then pressing the appropriate arrow keys), by pressing first (for Word/Open Office) the F8 key or (for WordPerfect) the F12 key.
