I have been using pspad for a long time, and like it very much - a number of commonly used file types are associated with pspad as primary app to open.
I am trying to customize my default icons for some file types. When I try to change .ini or .xml, they are linked together and cannot be changed independently of one another - ie: they always have to have the same icon. The reason given is that the file type "class" is set as "Applications\PSPad.exe" I tried uninstalling pspad temporarily to resolve this, but it does not help. In the regisrty, I found that value in the keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exploprer\FileExts\. xml (also .ini) \UserChoice\Progid\data="Applications\PSPad.exe" The key data cannot be changed (edit not allowed), and the keys cannot be deleted!?, even though pspad is uninstalled at the moment. How can I remove these associations, so the icons for .ini and .xml can be assigned independently?
