Eye-candy and text editor. Please, never ever mix those two things together.
Nowadays there are terabytes and teraflops spent on handling gradient
backgrounds that are in most cases useless, annoying and ugly. Do not
participate, please.

Moreover, PSPad now works quite well with inverse system colour schemes. I am
not sure it would be even possible to use gradient backgrounds in a way that
will work in every colour environment.

I would be surprised if such small gradients painted per tab change amounted to
any significant processor time whatsoever. And given the option to select the
color of a tab allows a user to choose what they think looks good (that's the
benefit of the highlighter color selections). So there's no reason to stick
with ugly when elegant is an option (see the image in my post above -- which is
certainly not* ugly).

All of this aside, however... the real issue I'm having is that selecting one of
three or more colored (say green) tabs does not notably highlight the selected
tab -- there is only a slight raised top to the selected tab (which is
next-to-impossible to find -- and once found, it took too long).

Perhaps a bold font on the selected tab would solve this? That is more
important than gradients, although gradients would be a slick option -- and a
feature no one is being forced to use ;-)

In any case, I think the colored tab implementation Jan pushed in the prior
build is _fantastic_ -- I just hope for more significant highlighting of a
selected tab.
