Thank you for the quick reply, but the latest version 4.5.7 does not solve the problem. I uninstalled completely, then installed the full version 4.5.6, then overlay with all files from 4.5.7. Same problem.
BUT - maybe I have a hint to the problem. For some reason, Windows does not store the change to file extension association. Here is the process: Open Explorer, select a filetype (example, a .INI file), click Explorer Menu >Open >Choose Default Program, with "Always use the selected program" checked, select PDPAD.exe, press <Enter>. Screen flashes quickly (too fast to see), then PSPad opens with empty New1.txt file. If I perform the same task again, expecting to see PSPad as the new selected Default program -- it is not. The previous program, Notepad.exe, is still the Default program. Windows did not change the Default program. If I select another default program (wordpad.exe), WIndows does not change to that program, either. -- <http://forum.pspad.com/read.php?2,57643,58377> PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
