I don't like idea to lock file for whole time of editing. It can cause problems on SAMBA and non Windows servers. For my opinion, you need information file is curently edited by somebody else, not to fully lock the file. E.g. case you are editing live web server files. If you will fully lock it, you can disable web server functionality.
