I've complained about this too, but it never gets anywhere. I get strange, unrecognizable characters randomly inserted into my files when I open/save them. What's scary is that I don't know they were inserted until I run the (php) script and it fails because of invalid characters in the code. Then, I have to go find and remove those crazy characters!.... very very scary that an editor is doing this on its own.
