This message is for the T13 mailing list, I am trying to find a safe way to read the device serial number which comes from the IDENTIFY DEVICE command from a Windows driver (it's not the hard disk device driver). I do have code which can directly get the IDENTIFY DEVICE information via direct I/O, however I believe this is unsafe as it could interfere with the hard disk drivers I/O access. I would rather make an IOCTL call via IoCallDriver if one is available.
