Title: RE: [t13] when MBR != partition table
Curtis,

Thanks.  I will take the rest of this off T13 and take it up with anyone who want to discuss further one on one.

If you look at the MS partition table documentation you will find a partition type "ee" which indicates that an EFI partition table follows this MBR.  It is the EFI partition table that allows for 64 bit entries...

This message is from the T13 list server.

Thanks Andries,

After looking through these many many many different types of
partitions.......Maybe it's best if the BIOS folks just continue to support
just the one we do now rather then open that can marked "WORMS".  I wondered
why Curtis was so quiet on this one.  Anyway, I think I still investigate on
the side.

For partition types, see
http://www.win.tue.nl/~aeb/partitions/partition_types-1.html

Type 42 denotes a Windows dynamic disk.
Types ee and ef are for EFI.
EFI stuff can be found e.g. at
http://www.intel.com/technology/efi/main_specification.htm
See Chapter 16 of the specification.

Microsoft stuff e.g.
http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/platform/firmware/EFI/default.asp
