Yes! Finally! I will not claim to be the first person with this idea
but if you go back in the T10 or T13 email traffic, perhaps back to
1994 or 1995, I was asking then for host adapters with this
functionality.

The sad thing is that project 1510D will probably not result in any
mainstream (nice way to say Intel) products that implement these
features. You can hear all the excuses now... "serial ATA" solves (or
doesn't have) this problem... USB-n (n>2) is the future interface...
Really, any day now we will get 1394 to work... iSCSI solves every
problem that has or will ever exist in I/O interfaces... 

(Just remember that "marketing/sales" is never able to sell the
products that the factory is making or that engineering is currently
trying to release to the factory. "Marketing/sales" can only sell the
product that engineering has not heard about yet. ATA and new ATA
functionality are just not sexy enough... Anything else just has to
be better!)
