"serial ATA" solves (or doesn't have) this problem... USB-n (n>2) is the future interface... Really, any day now we will get 1394 to work... iSCSI solves every problem that has or will ever exist in I/O interfaces... (Just remember that "marketing/sales" is never able to sell the products that the factory is making or that engineering is currently trying to release to the factory. "Marketing/sales" can only sell the product that engineering has not heard about yet. ATA and new ATA functionality are just not sexy enough...
