ATA/ATAPI PIO works just like ATA/ATAPI DMA... In the case of PIO the device may break the data transfer into multiple DRQ data blocks of whatever size the device wants that does not exceed the host specified BCL. In the case of DMA the device may break the data transfer into mulitple DMA data bursts of whatever size the devices wants. I don't see any difference...
