Structure of the New INCITS Organization

A chart detailing the structure of the new organization is available on the
INCITS website:

        http://www.incits.org/_transition/transition.htm

Brief descriptions of the scopes of the INCITS Executive Board, Standards
Development Board (SDB) and Standards Policy Board (SPB) are as follows:

Executive Board

The Executive Board is the INCITS Consensus Body and has the ultimate
responsibility for all standards developed and approved by INCITS. It is
responsible for ensuring accreditation, advancing the interests of the ICT
sector and maintaining a viable, level playing field for furthering
information technology.

The Executive Board accepts recommendations from the Standards Development
Board and the Standards Policy Board, which are responsible for the
day-to-day operations of INCITS.

Standards Development Board (SDB)

The general responsibilities of the Standards Development Board are:

    * Create and promote internally developed standards (TCs, CTs)
    * Adopt and promote externally developed specifications
    * Enable collaboration with other SDOs and consortia
    * Create and agree to methodology for new work identification

In addition, in the management of operations, the Standards Development
Board will serve as an advisory committee to the Executive Board on new U.S.
National and international standards development projects, standards
requirements, and review of proposed standards. The Standards Development
Board also manages the standardization process within INCITS Technical
Committees (TCs).

Standards Policy Board (SPB)

The Standards Policy Board will address all policy matters related to the
standards work of INCITS. This Board will make recommendations, for
Executive Board approval, that affect INCITS' relationships with other
SDO's, JTC 1, consortia, and the ICT industry in general. Such
recommendations will always have a focus on policies to support improving
the market relevance of INCITS.
