Michael,

PARTIES-2 proposal:

The orginal PARTIES spec used to be on the Phoenix website.  I don't know if it is still there or if anyone from Phoenix is even maintaining that stuff anymore.  I know the ones who used to are no longer there.  I would assume that Mukesh would be able to answer that (he has taken over T13 for Phoenix and is handling PARTIES-2).

Will someone please remind me what the document numbers for PARTIES and PARTIES-2 are?  Thanks, MKE.

Subject: [t13] PARTIES-2

Folks,

I have been reading through the PARTIES-2 spec and it raised a question in my head (i guess it would really exist regardless of PARTIES).  It seems that in the future if someone goes out and purchases a new hard drive for their system at Fry's and installs it that they could potentially loose funtionality in their system or even worse, it may not work at all.  Isnt this kind of scary or am I misunderstanding what people are thinking about putting into HPA's?  If someone buys a harddrive will they be required to send it to the motherboard folks to load some hidden BIOS funtions on it.  There is no way the drive manufacturer can PRELOAD a retail drive since they dont know what or whose system it is going into.  Maybe this has already been discussed at the meetings (I dont see mention of it in the minutes).  Like I said, just tossing that thought out there, I might be misunderstanding what I am reading.

have fun,
