Hi,

I hope this is the correct forum for such questions - if
the group does not field T13 implementation questions,
please let me know.

I'm writing an ATA driver for RISC OS. I've implemented a
lot of standard ATA-4 onwards features which I've not seen
other OSes implement as standard, and am pleased at the
progress. As an OS, RISC OS until very recently used a
driver designed in 1987 and last modified in 1991; not
ideal and certainly not in keeping with the standards of
your group!!! I aim to rectify this.

However, I am unable to find a document describing the
standards used for SMART values returned by the READ DATA
command, although I have seen third party applications
which use those values.

Is there an acceptable standard for these values, and any
recommended thresholds and suchlike available? It would be
great if RISC OS by default was able to handle these values
and issue errors appropriately.

Also - is it possible to obtain a file from the t13 site or elsewhere containing
samples of data issued by SMART
READ LOG? I am particularly interested in hardware error
logs since the only way of getting 'real world' data would
be to have a dying hard disc. A simple binary for emulation
of the log would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew Hill
