T13,
The letter ballot comments resolution that resulted from the T13 plenary meeting on Feb 24-26, 2004 have been posted on the reflector.
There are two ways of reviewing the letter ballot comment resolutions:
1) Open the large (4MB each) volumes 1, 2, and 3 in e04111r0, e04112r0, and e04113r0. You can then open the comments view on the toolbar and see the comments notes "in place" in the document, and see their resolution in the comment toolbar
2) Open the .DOC file e04116r0, and see all three volumes of comments and resolutions. These comments and resolutions are listed page-by-page. You MUST refer to the original volumes of ATA/ATAPI-7 to get proper page correlation. The proper docs are on the T13 Website: d1532r4 ATA/ATAPI - 7 revision 4 Vol. 1 Vol. 2 and Vol. 3
Do not use rev 3e, 3f, 3g, etc, as they are very different and obsolete.
There were approximately 528 comments total. 412 were accepted and 116 rejected. Most of the rejected comments were due to:
- Approximately 40 ISO numbering format change requests (e.g changing commas in large numbers to spaces; 1,555,666 to 1 555 666). This will be done when it is submitted to ISO.
- Approximately 24 requests to clarify as “parallel-only” statements in volume 1. This was resolved by creating a global explanation paragraph at the beginning of sections 5 and 6 to address issue. It was felt that many other cases were obvious by their context. It was also felt that this was intended to be a major area for improvement in ATA-8.
- Approximately 12 requests to change terms like “microseconds” to “mS” or “seconds” to “s” were rejected, since it was felt that the full English word is always appropriate. We may change this when we create an ISO document. Many of these comments were also accepted, however, due to inconsistent usage of expressions. In general, we will use the full English word wherever practical.
I am now working on incorporating the accepted changes into the source documents. This will take quite a bit of work, and I do not expect them to be posted for a few weeks. I will try to get them prior to April 5.
