I should have added this to my previous message...

Since SATA basically ignores all the Command Block access rules, it
would be interesting to know what strange things happen if this same
host was dealing with a SATA host controller and SATA device.

Ignoring the these rules is the main reason SATA should have never
been merged with PATA (in ATA/ATAPI-7). SATA should have remained the
publication of a "secret society" or should have been a completely
different ANSI standard. Just like the old problem with the ATAPI
DEVICE RESET that requires the phase "except for DEVICE RESET" on
every 5th page of ATA/ATAPI-x, SATA probably requires the phase
"except Serial ATA" on every page of ATA/ATAPI-7.

ATA/ATAPI-7 should not be accepted as an ANSI standard (but it will).
And this mistake should not be repeated in ATA/ATAPI-8 - ATA/ATAPI-8
should go back to just being PATA and SATA should get its own
documents completely separate from PATA. Of course there may be no
reason for any new/additional PATA documents. ATA/ATAPI-7 will always
be viewed as some strange aberration that doesn't nothing but confuse
everyone.
