This message is from the T13 list server.
(The following is my personal opinion only, and reflects designs
implemented in a
previous company)
Unless specified otherwise, if the device does not indicate that the
feature is supported, then
then the command MAY either be aborted or treated as a NOP.
There are customers, however, that prefer it one way over the other, and a
device
sometimes must be customized to do it both ways, based on some
configuration setting.
The spec DOES say that if the feature is supported and enabled,
then the device SHALL behave in a certain manner.
Some features do say what to expect if the feature is not
enabled/supported.
Thank You !!!

Hi all,
I have what I believe is the spirit of the law question.
If a device doesnât report that it supports a feature in its
IDENTIFY_DATA is it acceptable to send it commands from that feature set
anyway?
For example: If a device doesnât report support for the Media
Status Notification feature set is it acceptable to send it the GET MEDIA
STATUS command anyway?
I donât see anywhere in the spec that prohibits this behavior,
so first off, am I missing the section that says you shall not do this? Is
it bad behavior to do this?
Thanks,
Nathan
