There is an important consideration which Mr. Henrich left out. There are
many ways to swap layers; the word itself does not give us enough
information. Telling us *why* one wants to do this will probably convey
what we need to know to answer clearly. But I'll make some comments.
There has been some advice given on this topic which is appropriate if one
has to get the board out immediately and can clean up the mess later. I
don't advice going down that road unless it is absolutely necessary.
If the board is not a surface mount board, one may create a mid layer or
mech layer and select the top layer and cut and paste to this new layer,
then the bottom layer to the top layer, then the new layer to the top layer.
If the board is surface mount, then one does not want to simply swap
layers; they must be mirrored. I recall that a server has been written to
do that (to flip a board over).
Selecting the objects and using the L key will move objects to the other
side of the board, but if there are components, one can end up with a bit
of a mess, because the track will be unmirrored but the components will be
mirrored. Protel needs a little work in this area....
There are also more complex ways to move components and other primitives
from one side of the board to the other. It's easy to move track to the
other side of a board, the problems arise, as indicated above, when there
are components which will be inverted (bottom-up, as we see them) if they
are moved to the other side. This does not happen with through-hole
components (unless one wants to mount them from the bottom).
