My habit is to immediately delete the files in the .ddb. The .ddb contains
all information necessary to regenerate them if for any reasont the
external files are lost. Because I am usually sending the .ddb to my client
at this point, I also delete report files and other fluff, and I go to the
recycle bin and empty it. I have automatic compaction on, so the .ddb is
compacted when I exit.
Yes, it would be nice to have an option that more fully controlled where
the files are generated. The internal files are redundant; I suppose
someone might have a use for them somewhere. I don't know of any. We can't
import them (gerber import to a PCB), which would be one possible use,
because the import browser does not include .ddb files in the search option.
I agree that defaulting to the .ddb directory would be good for new users,
but I set my automatic export directory to one that is very easily
accessible when I go to attach files to mail (I use the directoryname
"a-xmt", so it's close to the beginning of the alphabetised directory list
in windows). Saves a lot of clicks. All my output files go there. In
Eudora, I winzip 'em through the attach file browser before sending them to
a client. When I want to import gerber, that is always the directory I
import it from, so it comes up by default.
