I am not sure of the details off-hand, but I am under the impression that it
*is* possible to produce at least one type of report file from Pcb Library
files. (If I am wrong on this one though, others will probably point it out.
And if I am correct, than others might point out what menu commands, or
Processes, can be used to achieve this.)

And it is (or at least used to be) possible to print a copy of the currently
selected footprint within a Pcb Library file. However, it is necessary to
use the "old-fashioned" printing method to actually do this. *If* you
downloaded a copy of my PcbAddon Server (whose URL was provided in my last
posting on this thread), you will find that this incorporates some Processes
which I created in order to facilitate producing printouts using the
"old-fashioned" printing method (as Protel's own code is not as good as it
could be in this regard).

But even if you don't have a copy of my PcbAddon Server, you can still
access and use the "old-fashioned" printing method (and the shortcomings of
Protel's own code are less likely to be problematic when printing from Pcb
Library files, as opposed to printing from Pcb files). You should set up a
Resource (Menu entry, Toolbar button, or Shortcut key; see the on-line help
and/or printed documentation on how to do this) which invokes the
Pcb:SetupPrinter Process (with no parameters). (If you have downloaded and
installed my PcbAddon Server, you could alternatively configure the Resource
to invoke the PcbAddon:SetupPrinter Process (with no parameters), which
provides enhanced capability.)

The "Printer Setup" dialog box which is subsequently invoked (either
Protel's or mine, depending upon which Process was invoked by the Resource)
is a "base camp" for configuring printing jobs. With the "old-fashioned"
printing method (which can be used with both Pcb Library files and Pcb
files), you can select either a Composite Mode printout or a Final Mode
printout.

With a Composite Mode printout, just *one* printout is produced, and this
contains the contents of whichever layers were selected by you for inclusion
in this printout. Note that some layers don't print properly though, such as
the Solder Mask and Paste Mask layers. (And it is not possible to produce a
Composite Mode printout in a mirrored state, or at least not without
*mirroring* *everything*, and then printing after doing that.)

With a Final Mode printout, a printout is produced for *each* (plot)layer
you select. In general, each such (plot)layer contains the contents of just
one layer, but it is possible to stipulate whether the contents of each
(enabled) Mechanical layer is also included in the printout produced from
each of these plotlayers. All (plot)layers do print properly (except for the
Drill Drawing and Drill Guide (plot)layers, which have been "broken" in this
regard for some time), and it is possible to stipulate whether each (plot)
layer is printed out in a mirrored state or otherwise.

With both types of printout, the area that is printed is the extents of the
PCB (Library) file; it is not possible to (alternatively) stipulate the
extents of the current screen display (as is the case with printouts
produced while using the Power Print Server).

(The "old-fashioned" printing method also supports Gerber file generation,
which is regarded as another (special) case of Final Mode printing. However,
it is not especially likely that you would want to produce Gerber files from
a footprint.)

And a small note on your above reply. The use of just capital letters makes
what you have written harder to read by others, and gives the impression
that you are SHOUTING.

Regards,
Geoff Harland.
