How about joining the Association (mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]) and suggesting that we
do this for ourselves as users?

If it's a dream, it is a shared one. Here's my own fantasy:

An index is maintained which references mfr. part numbers to a standard
library name.
When one of us creates symbols or footprints for a part, we email the data
to a list, using a standard form for the subject line. The list is either
moderated or is edited so that the standard forms are maintained.
When another user uses the part and verifies that it is valid, that
information is also compiled. With each model/symbol/footprint is
associated commentary from users, such as "this footprint is not good for
wave solder."

The key to this will be making the provision and compilation of the
information easy and efficient. It has to be easy, or we won't do it.

Protel could help with the process, but the idea does not depend on them.
Nevertheless, if reporting mechanisms were built into the software, it
could be very useful.
