Brian,
are you using P99SE? In P99SE all the print server usable
configuration items don't come up from a single right click, you can only
get approx. 1/3 of the configuration/setup options through a single right
click in the print server. To get all of them you must right click at least
twice (PCB Print Options and Printout Properties) in the Browse PCBPrint
window and then proceed to the Tools Preferences menu to get at others.
Three clicks to get at all printout options menus controlling the print
server configuration.
The biggest problem is the fact that we typically don't do this
configuration everyday, several times per day, like we do other operations.
Therefore when you are trying to tweak or change a printout configuration,
it can be confusing trying to remember where certain options or selections
are set within this myriad of configuration menus for the print server. I
know that I curse and mutter under my breathe every time I go through this
process and I believe that Dennis is commenting on the same issue.
While we are on this subject! Is there something that I am missing?
When I start a new print server it always defaults and runs through
the initialization for a multilayer composite print, after that operation
then I can go through changing it to a Final print or other print type. This
can be very time consuming on a large job and needlessly infuriating. Is
there not some way to just go directly to start the type of printout you
want configured with the Power Printserver? Similarly one of my pet peeves,
why does it assume that every layer with a single primitive on it is
required for a composite or final print, give me a choice of what to include
instead of making me go through it later and delete everything that was
automatically inserted into the printout by starting the print server.
Does anybody else think that starting a print server should bring up
a wizard? Then you could dictate the type of printout and run through a
selection matrix for the layers to include similar to the existing CAM
wizard. Include in this the options for adding mechanical layers to each
print page, etc., etc., etc..
