Here is the response I received from Protel about there EDIF 2.0
(Hierarchical) netlist in August of 2000:
"I was told that the accuracy of the hierarchy structure of the EDIF 2.0
HIERARCHICAL format is not 100% reliable, the EDIF netlist is not guaranteed
to work 100% on third party tools, you may need to alter the netlist to get
it to work, such as deleting section of script that is not required, Xilinx
or other vendor tool will detect the errors or warnings for you to trace
when you try to compile the file. Also notice that the generated EDIF net
has a .NET extension and not a .edf extension, you'll need to manually
change or rename the file extension to .edf before loading into the back
end tool used for the implementation stage."
I do not recall this problem being fixed in the latest service pack.
Also, Protel will not release the location of their Library Mapping File
(LMF), which is also needed by some 3rd party tools.
You might want to look at http://www.edif.org/

Subject: Re: [PEDA] JTAG / Boundary Scan using Protel netlists
Hello All,
Has anyone successfully used a Telesis format netlist generated from Protel
for use with Boundary Scan/JTAG software? I've run into problems with the
EDIF 2.0. netlist from Protel in that it provides incomplete data. I am
hoping that I don't have to purchase a 3rd party translation tool and that
Protel will provide me with the correct information.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Karen
