OK, I think I've got it... I had NMEA going to the port on the direct USB link 
to the computer.  I'm not sure why this would be a problem, AFAIK RTKLib 
recognizes NMEA and UBX binary and only accepts the binary.  The extra 
bandwidth for the unneeded data might overrun the buffers though, and might 
only do so when there's enough satellites overhead?
