Well in Pakistan too sometime people complain that they had to pay duty on Ubuntu CDs
And surprisingly the custom duty people have paid is different in all cases. A friend of mine ordered 50 CDs . He had to pay 125 rupees for those. Yesterday my pack of 50 CDs arrived and no custom duty was demanded. Another friend of mine called me up and told his courier service is demanding Rupees 1500 for 50 Cds. :)

I was surprised why my CDs were delivered without any demand of duty. Probably because my shipment address was a government department? I am not sure.

GCES is organising a IT fest on 19th and 20th September.  The main aim
is to create awareness of the effort involved in software development
and IT awareness in general.  With the abundance of unauthorised (aka.
pirated) software on the streets of Nepal, people - including students -
are misled.  So, apart from projects demonstration, FOSS awareness
programs form a major part.  Our students want to compose a CD with FOSS
for windows and Ubuntu that can be distributed to interested people.

We want the CD to be just like TheOpenCD or Ubuntu - which can boot a
linux as well as have windows software when used in a windows machine -
but with our own collection of FOSS that is more relevant for people
here.  For this collection, we are eagerly looking at the list of FOSS
that you people at KTM are compiling.  We will be keeping you posted on this as
well as asking you ideas (and software as well :)

In addition to that, we thought it would be better to distribute some
Ubuntu CDs as well - since it comes in a nice package.  So, please
advice us on this.

Are we already late for getting ubuntu CDs shipped before Sep 19th ?


We are targeting mostly college and higher secondary students.
