Hi FOSSians,

Last year we had celebrated Software Freedom Day. It was marked by a wonderful participation, fabulous presentations and showcasing different projects. We did had some follow up seminars and workshops at colleges. But we failed to achieve, what we could have.

Lets Do Something MORE:

This year,  we are again celebrating Software Freedom Day and have a strong community which is working behind it. So I would like to propose: Lets plan for our FUTURE ACTION & FUTURE PROJECT during this SFD celebration event.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This initiative is IDENTIFY:

1.      What are the different PROJECT (Technical / Awareness / Advocacy / Training Or Any) that we are going to do in  coming year.
2.      Who are the person who CAN take lead OR Who CAN support this initiative
3.      The timeline of the project and expected results.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How will we Do this:

1.       We will invite all members to post there New IDEAS/ FUTURE ACTION / PROJECT that they was to carry in coming year to   achieve the objective of FOSSification.

2.      All these IDEAS will be shared with all community members through: (The IDEA initiator MARKET his/her IDEAS and try to  bring in more and more participation and new inputs )

2.1     Online : This Thread (mailing list, website, Blogs & Wiki.....)

2.2     Display (MARKET PLACE) :        The IDEAS/PROJECT/FUTURE ACTION will be posted on the WALL (where every one              can visit and read) during the SFD celebration (Yala Maya Kendra) with TIME on Sept 16,2006 and Venue at Yala Maya               Kendra  (Like Table A, so on...)

2.3     Face -to-Face: IDEA Initiator will get opportunity to share about his IDEA and invite other community members during             SFD celebration  to that        particular discussion at the specified time and location. (Time & Location will be decided by            the Organizing Committee).

3.      Community members who are interested in participating in that particular discussion will SIGN UP for that discussion and will   show up for the discussion. IDEA initiator will highlight the relevance of his/her IDEA and facilitate the discussion.

4. .    The final outcome will be documented and posted to the FOSS Nepal Community Wiki.

We hope that this will provide us platform to share different activities that FOSS Nepal Community members are working on / Plannig to work on. Hence why not take advantage of the participants gathering over there on SFD and share your IDEAS and hear from others (Who might not be in the LIST)

Hence Looking forward for LOTS of IDEAS, FUTURE ACTION  and NEW PROJECT.

Some Key Points for the Methodology to be used :

The Technology we are going to use is named as  OPEN SPACE TECHNOLOGY (OST)

What is Open Space Technology:

Open Space Technology is one way to enable all participants to create, manage, discuss and plan their own agenda of parallel working sessions around a central theme in meeting, events, workshop.

Why OST?

OST helps us to come to a common understanding where there is complex situation, high degree of diversity, urgent need to make speedy decisions, all stakeholders are needed for good decisions to be made, no preconceived notion of what the outcomes should be .

HOW OST WORKS (RULES):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are Four Principles of OST:

1.      Whoever comes is the right people:
Whoever is attracted to the same conversation are the people who can contribute most to that conversationbecause they care. So they are exactly the onesfor the whole group-- who are capable of initiating action.

2.       Whatever happens is the only thing that could've:
We are all limited by our own pasts and expectations.  This principle acknowledges we'll all do our best to focus on NOW-- the present time and place-- and not get bogged down in what could've or should've happened.

3.       When it starts is the right time:
The creative spirit has its own time, and our task is to make our best contribution and enter the flow of creativity when it starts.

4.       When it's over, it's over:
Creativity has its own rhythm.  So do groups.  Just a reminder to pay attention to the flow of creativity -- not the clock.  When you think it is over, ask: Is it over?  And if it is, go on to the next thing you have passion for.  If it’s not, make plans for continuing the conversation.

AND ALSO: (5th Rule) : ABOVE ALL

The Law of Two Feet
gives participants freedom to move at any time to a discussion they care about. Caring creates common ground, and helps to remind participants of higher purpose. (While in discussion you can change the group as per your choice)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Appologies for long email: but we are Looking forward for LOTS of IDEAS, FUTURE ACTION  and NEW PROJECT.

NOTE: Tentatively this Open Space will be organized during the MOVIE Showing Program @ SFD Celebration
