As a step forward in our "Women in ICT" initiative, we are currently
working
on creating an inventory of women in ICT. The main aim of preparing
this
inventory is to come up with success stories of women in ICT sector so
as to
motivate women to join the ICT workforce. Furthermore, this inventory
can
also help to depict the present scenario of women participation in ICT
field
of Nepal and can aid IT policy-makers to develop women-friendly ICT
policies
for increasing women participation. Under the first phase of this
project,
we have started to collect information of women successfully working
in the
ICT sector.
The profile collection of women in ICT is an ongoing process. However,
since
ICT is a very broad sector, for the first phase, we are restricting
ourselves to the following sectors:
*1) ICT Practitioners*
a) Academicians
b) ICT Advocates
*2) Hardware/Software Specialists*
a) Network specialists
b) Hardware maintenance/specialists
c) Software developers/specialists
i) Website developers
ii) Application developers
*3) Media Persons* *(Electronic Media - TV, Radio)*
a) Photo journalist
b) Documentary (editor, director)
c) Technical officer
The parameters that we have considered to define success for our
first
phase is defined below:
1. *Position in organization*
1. Managerial level or above
2. *Recognition*(if applicable)
1. State level
2. People level
3. *Years of sustainability/experience*
1. Three years for Kathmandu valley
2. One Year for outside the valley
