Fraught with many meanings, "Moksha" in its simplest form means liberation or freedom from all bonds. --- Desktop Moksha : Call for applications This a call for applications for participation in the Desktop Moksha training event. Applicants for this event must ideally be persons new to GNU/Linux and from government, industry or educational backgrounds who can use the acquired skills for the benefit of others. It is located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. With an estimated population of 6.98 million (2006), the 368-year-old city is the 34th largest metropolitan area in the world. Chennai is the third largest commercial and industrial centre in India, and is known for its cultural heritage and temple architecture. It is also a hub for south Indian classical music and dance performances Accomodation Accomodation will be arranged by the organizers and selected applicants will be intimated by mail about the same. Venue The training will take place at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, 6/13, Block II, Park Avenue, Keshavaperumalpuram, Chennai - 28, India. Weather Chennai's proximity to the sea makes it hot and humid for most of the year. The highest temperature is obtained in late May and early June usually about 38 °C (100 °F), though it usually exceeds 40 °C (104 °F) for a few days most years. Currency The local currency is the Indian Rupee. 1 US$ = 45 Rs approximately. Currency exchange facilities are provided at the Airport and other centres around the city as well. Indian Visa Requirements All foreign nationals are required to present a valid passport and an appropriate (entry, transit or tourist) visa, upon arrival in India. As a visitor to India, you need to get a visa from the Indian Embassy or High Commission. Citizens of Bhutan and Nepal do not require a passport to travel to India. Visa regulations and guidelines are available here Letter of Invitation In case you need to submit a letter of invitation for participating in the training from the organizers, please send us a request as early as possible. Immigration and Customs Visitors will have to fill out an immigration and customs form on entering India. They may be asked to declare the amount of foreign currency in their possession at the time of entering the country.
