Can you use gedit in X ? The answer is obviously a no. > > emacs(elisp) is a total IDE .. can you play game while programming in > vi ?? But I do not want an IDE. What I want is a fast, simple editor that runs on X and does it well across every distribution. Why would I go to great great (actually, great^infinity) to learn some stupid editor command ? This is a total waste of time. According to what you said, you are better off using IDE of some sort. Eclipse might be a candidate. Since it has better functionality that emacs and there are tons of plug-ins available. And lastly I don't play silly games. Maybe saurbraeten here and there but no I am not a gamer so that takes emacs out of the equation according to you.
