Hey guys, We are all really excited about how FKK is gaining pace now but how about getting up the scale a little bit and having a different FKK that focuses on the really core technical issues with FOSS.. like development.. core technologies and how to implement them. So far, FKK is more like a marketing strategy (had we been some company) to get the word out on the streets but the thing is we are still not any better at hacking the core competencies that makes sth like FOSS so lucrative and has gained so much momentum over the past decades. Since a lot of us are technically minded people here (ok most of the people who are participating regularly in discussions), how about having a developer focused FKK as well? With the current FKK line up we are focusing on the people beginning FOSS or want to be a part but we miss the developers who are accustomed with their IDEs and windows based programming languages. Heck, most people here aren't still that much familiar with those still. We need to learn those things because let's face it, that's where FOSS is. If we keep our focus in just getting the word out on applications only, we aren't really engineering anything but just doing something on the verge of social work and marketing. We need to learn a lot of things on FOSS to be really on par with our "bideshi" conterparts... Here are some topic pools that you guys might be interested:
VCS== Version control systems like git, bazaar, cvs, svn and so much more kernels== linux (maybe even minix) book reviews == ok maybe a little more but a nice review of a tech book or sth can be really great.. hmm.. maybe we can have this on the site... core web stuffs== like AJAX or whatever that's interesting.. I'm not proposing to move up the scale for FKK itself.. I am requesting for the developers/engineers and tech enthusiasts to have a more mature discussions into core technical competencies as well. Lets face it... in Nepal, it's still .NET or Java (not still 100% open source in some variants) that's going to get you job... unless you are really into the tech side of OSS.. .a lot of people here might just end up as just another microserf... Lets take these things parallelly...
