I couldn't understand why other nodes in the network couldn't access the file from the server. Was it not made accessible/shared/public ?
You may need to verify what i write here. nevertheless, let me write whatever i know. There should be no difference in the scenario even if you use a hub. EXCEPT for one special case. Be it a hub or a switch, most of them have an Uplink port that is internally made to do the job of a crossover cable. So, if you use two devices, one having an uplink which acts as a crosover connection, and the other whose uplink doesn't, it MAY be different. Again, depending upon if a particular switch/hub has the auto-mdix feature, the results may vary. During the Install Fest, IMO, because of the use of crossover connection, the server and THE node were in a direct connection (peer- to-peer network).
